Next Meeting:

Speak effectively, convince and persuade with the Heart of England Speakers' Club in Solihull, Birmingham

Do you want to:
  • Be more at ease speaking in social and professional situations
  • Learn how to prepare and give presentations
  • Develop your communication abilities and build self esteem

Then come along to our self-help group in speaking and presentation skills.

Become the Speaker and Leader you want to be

We are a welcoming public speaking club made up of a great variety of friendly members from the community in and around Solihull (including members from as far afield as Dudley, Wolverhampton and Worcester!).

We are at all levels of speaking ability, from the well-seasoned members to our seedling new members.  Together we support each other to achieve greatness at public speaking as well as improving our self confidence in public situations.

We meet at the Solihull Moors Football Club twice a month (1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month).  We start with short, unrehearsed 1-2 minute speeches on general (possibly funny) topics.  These are followed by prepared speeches, and finally constructive evaluations.   Click here for details of how to get there.

As a guest, you can choose to have a go at the impromptu speeches, or you can just sit back and enjoy the performances of the evening.  There is no pressure to join in straight away.

What is Toastmasters?

From a humble beginning in 1924 at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California, Toastmasters International has grown to become a world leader in helping people become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience.  The non-profit organization now has nearly 226,000 members in 11,500 clubs in 92 countries, offering a proven – and enjoyable! – way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.

Most Toastmasters meetings are comprised of approximately 20 people who meet weekly for an hour or two.  Participants practice and learn skills by filling a meeting role, ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian.

There is no instructor; instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved.

Why Join Toastmasters

Survey after survey shows that presentation skills are crucial to success in the workplace.  Many people pay high fees for seminars to gain the skill and confidence necessary to face an audience.  Toastmasters provides an option that is less expensive and held in high regard in business circles.  This organisation has been around for more than 84 years and offers a proven – and enjoyable – way to practice and hone communication and leadership skills.

  •  Increase your self confidence.

How you do it. . .

  • Build speaking and leadership skills with time-tested methods

Toastmasters programs are . . .

  • Supportive

More than four million people have discovered the benefits of this proven learning formula. What are you waiting for?

Resources for public speaking and leadership

You have questions. We have answers!

Take advantage of Toastmasters International’s vast library of information, available to the public for the first time.  While the key to success as a speaker is regular practice (preferably in a Toastmasters meeting), Toastmasters International offer these time-tested resources to help you.

The Toastmaster magazine archive is a particularly valuable source for material on any topic related to communication and leadership.  Article authors are often Toastmasters members, but they also include subject experts such as professional speakers and speechwriters, language experts, actors and performers who share from personal experience techniques from the trenches.

How to join Toastmasters International at the Heart of England Speakers Club

Like all clubs in Toastmasters International we offer a friendly and supportive environment in which you can overcome any fear of public speaking and develop your speaking, communication and leadership skills.

You can come along as a visitor to any of our meetings.  It will be a great opportunity for you to see how a Toastmasters club works.  You'll get to meet the members and have a fun and entertaining night.

There is no need to book, just turn up and we will make you feel welcome.  If you do require more information please send an email to visitor@heartspeakers.org.uk
